Project summary:

The target species of the present project proposal is the Gran Canaria Blue Chaffinch (Fringilla teydea polatzeki), listed in the Annex I of Birds Directive under consideration of “priority species.” In addition, the project action area is located entirely within the Natura 2000 network.

Furthermore, the proposed actions are included in the Gran Canaria Blue Chaffinch Recovery  Plan (2013) and the European Action Plan for the Blue Chaffinch (Fringilla teydea)  (1996, 2010 revision).

Moreover, the project foresees measures aimed to control exotic species that threaten the conservation of priority species such as Gran Canaria Blue Chaffinch. Such is the case of the cat, for which control, the use of traps has been put forward in order to minimize the pressure exerted by this predator on populations of the target species.
